Symphytum x uplandicum 'Bocking 14'
Comfrey 'Bocking 14' is sterile and will not spread by seed.
Comfrey 'Bocking 14' is one of our most used perennials. It makes great chicken fodder, living mulch, garden borders, compost starter, medicine, bee forage and much more. Comfrey contains 20-30% protein by dry weight. Grown near a chicken coop, it makes a great nutrient-rich supplement to chicken feed. Comfrey produces loads of biomass for permaculture chop and drop applications, such as mulching a food forest.
Size: Grows into a plant 2'to 3' in size
Site Preference: Easy to grow in almost any soil conditions. Does not like excessively dry sites, however.
Hardiness: Zones 3-9
You can purchase comfrey crown cuttings, which are healthy 4-6" crown divisions/large cuttings, OR 1" root cuttings, which are a more afforable way to start your comfrey patch, but take longer to become a full sized plant.
